Essential oils can be really effective in relieving the symptoms of sinusitis. Click here for an all natural blend to help clear up this horrible condition.

Certain oils contain antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties which can make a real difference to the pain and discomfort caused by the condition and so help to improve your overall wellbeing.

Sinusitis can be brought on by a cold or flu outbreak or just develop as a problem in its own right. It often results in inflammation of the nasal passages. This can cause symptoms such as nasal congestion, headaches, a possible fever and often a nasty cough. Severe sinusitis can be extremely debilitating. If symptoms persist for more than a week then medical advice should be sought.

It's possible to treat this nasty infection naturally using aromatherapy - try the following blend in a steam inhalation. Add the oils to a bowl of steaming water, cover your head with a towel and breathe deeply for 2-3 minutes. For severe cases repeat 3-4 times a day.

•         2 Drops Rosemary – this will help ease headaches and other pains. Rosemary is a stimulant which aids circulation and helps get oxygen to the brain. This also makes it an excellent choice for headache relief too.

•         1 Drop Peppermint – invigorating peppermint oil will help open the airways and ease headache pains. Menthol, the key active ingredient in the oil is thought to be useful in reducing sinus and chest congestion.

•         1 Drop Thyme – this immune boosting oil is often used to treat colds and infections. It’s a natural expectorant so will help release phlegm and ease the healing process.

•         2 Drops Eucalyptus – inhalation of this refreshing oil will allow its antiseptic properties to get to work on clearing infection and opening the airways.

Alternatively you can add this blend to a hot bath. This will give the added benefit of easing aching muscles and joints. Add to a tablespoon of milk to help the oils disperse in the bath.
