First, here are a few essential oils and carrier oils that work really well on mature skin:
Essential Oils:
Sandalwood, Rosewood, Frankincense & Lavender are all good rejuvenating oils.
Neroli, Geranium and Rose all help to balance and condition the skin
Carrier / Base Oils:
Jojoba - Absorbs into skin easily, forming a protective barrier preventing moisture loss.
Avocado - Rich in essential fatty acids, moisturising and revitalising.
Rosehip Seed Oil - Contains Vitamin C and is a great antioxidant which penetrates into deeper layers of the skin.
Evening Primrose Oil - Rich in important unsaturated fatty acids.
Wheatgerm Oil - Contains high levels of Vitamin E, a natural antioxidant. Can help with cell regeneration.
Carrot Tissue Oil - Rich source of beta-carotene and full of Vitamins B, C, D and E and essential Fatty acids.
Sweet Almond Oil - Softening, nourishing and rich in vital unsaturated fatty acids.
Make your own moisturiser:
A great base for your moisturiser is Amphora’s Base Cream. It’s packed full of moisturising ingredients like Sweet Almond oil and Beeswax. They leave skin feeling beautifully smooth and nourished. Alternatively you can use any of the Carrier oils detailed above.
It’s fun to experiment with different oils until you create a blend that you’re happy with. This way you can create a moisturiser that smells amazing and is great for your skin too! A 1% Dilution rate is a good place to start – 1 drop of essential oil for every 5ml of base.
For my blend you’ll need 100 of base and 16 drops (in total) of essential oils. Frankincense is a great oil for rejuvenating the skin. Neroli and Geranium help to balance and soothe so these are the 3 oils that I have chosen for this particular moisturiser.
8 Drops Frankincense
4 Drops Geranium
4 Drops Neroli
15 Drops Rosehip Seed Oil
100ml Cream Base
Blend together in a clean, dark glass jar or bottle and mix well to ensure that everything is absorbed. You might need to give the blend a shake before each use too. Use as you would any other moisturiser, morning and night.
This blend with help moisturise and hydrate the skin leaving it feeling soft and looking smooth. Enjoy!
