In my previous blog I gave you an uplifting and energising blend which is perfect for when you’re getting ready for a night out.

Today I’ve got a soothing and reviving blend to help you deal with the after effects.

With lots of celebrations over the Christmas period, there may be times when we have one too many drinks than expected. As enjoyable as this can be, the next day doesn’t tend to be so much fun!

As we all know, the best cure for a hangover is rest, water and sleep. As Christmas is a busy period as well as an enjoyable part of the year, we may not always have the time to nurse away our hangovers in bed.

To help you get up and go, you can give yourself some assistance using those pure essential oils which will help clear your mind and ease a throbbing head!

To help you get through those hazy, post party mornings, we’ve put together a reviving, restoring blend to help.

You’ll need:

2 drops Rosemary

1 drops Juniperberry

3 drops of Lemon

Lemon is a lovely scent to help treat a hangover! It is wonderfully light, fresh and sweet, making it effective it cleansing and clarifying. Alcohol acts as a diuretic and can leave you severely dehydrated meaning that your body then struggles to detoxify itself. Dehydration leads to symptoms such as headaches and mental fogginess.

Lemon is renowned for its detoxifying properties; it is high in d-limonene which is thought to be really helpful in assisting the body to eliminate toxins.

Rosemary’s stimulating effects makes it an effective oil for treating exhaustion and mental fogginess! It’s a popular choice for when your brain is in need of a boost and it’s thought to be a naturally effective headache treatment.

It is an excellent tonic for the brain and inhaling the aroma is thought to be of great help to your concentration.

Juniperberry has a tonic effect on the liver. It is a useful oil for providing relief from hangovers and its detoxifying properties will help the body eliminate waste and toxins after being submitted to alcohol and other forms of indulgence!

You may also find Peppermint to be a useful oil to have around. It can help calm feelings of nausea and makes a lovely tummy rub for upset stomachs.

You can either add this blend to your burner or vaporiser or create a gorgeous hangover bath cure bath. Add the oils to a cup of Epsom Salts to help draw out toxins and ease your muscles.

Alternatively you can put the oils on the floor of the shower – this will create an amazing steam inhalation. If you’re super organised you could blend the oils in 10ml of body lotion or a carrier oil to create a soothing and revitalising massage blend.

The best way to avoid a hangover is not to drink alcohol in the first place but at this time of year there’s no harm in enjoying a drink or two. We hope this natural hangover soother will help you to feel better the morning after.

Don’t forget that our Beauty Therapist Sophie Rouse and our in house Aromatherapist Eugèny Couture post regular blogs on all things Aromatherapy from basic massage techniques to all-natural serum blends.
